Every calendar, almanac, diary, clock face and dating instrument offered for sale or public display needs a licence from the Ministry of Chronology.

Steps

1. Check whether your item needs a licence

   Under the Act of 1852 every calendar, almanac, diary, clock face and dating instrument offered for sale or for public display needs a licence. The licence number must be printed on the item.

2. Prepare two proof copies

   Two proof copies of the item must accompany the application. No copy may be distributed before the licence is granted.

3. Fill in form C-3

   Give the title, the year covered, the format and the print run.

4. Pay the fee

   The fee is charged per title for each year covered, and per face for clock faces. It is set by the Ministry of Finance.

5. Examination by the Ministry

   An examiner checks that the item enumerates only years recognised by the Ministry. Proofs that do not are retained.

6. Print the licence number

   Print the licence number and the Ministry's seal on every copy. Unlicensed items are to be surrendered at the nearest office of the Ministry.

Fees

Fees are the statutory sums of 1804 revalued by the price index of the Ministry of Finance, which stood at 16,713.61 at the close of 2025 (1804 = 100).

Licences are issued after examination of the proofs.
